Much like bad weather hit the northern region the previous evening, City overwhelmed United aside at the their home ground. It was a statement three-nil victory for the City coach's side due to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their championship potential as they reinforced their position at the top of the table.

Successive Losses for Manchester United

This outcome represented back-to-back Women's Super League losses for Skinner's side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, placing them a sizable gap off the league leaders with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

United’s ability to juggle domestic and continental football with a small squad has been a frequently analyzed subject since they earned a place in the Champions League. Looking at the calendar, it always seemed this was the period that would fully examine this fortitude. Regrettably for the away side, they looked tired from start to finish, the memorable win against the French side clearly having left its mark.

Team Changes

Marc Skinner had sought to freshen things up with a handful of changes. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Galton all brought freshness, although the dropping of the on-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes raised a few eyebrows.

Manchester City, in opposition, have no such workload concerns. Jeglertz made one change from the previous win over Everton with Lauren Hemp making her initial starting appearance since recovering from injury.

Dominant First Half

Goals Galore

They turned chances into goals with almost thirty minutes played when Aoba Fujino won the home team a corner. A delivery to the far post was nodded across goal by Shaw for Rebecca Knaak to nod home. It was Manchester City's 7th headed goal of the season.

They extended their lead with an additional two goals just before the interval. When Rose was able to maraud through the center from central defence, the play widened for the hosts. Final Period

The clearest adjustment came from the United manager at the interval as Melvine Malard entered for Terland but by this time it was too late to change the course of the game. Former Manchester City player Park came nearest, striking the upright, but the away team were creatively abject and were unable to produce a one shot on goal.

The home side, in contrast, could have extended their cushion when a superb Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it did not affect the result to the winning team. Having failed to defeat any team who placed above them last season, the manager's side now have successes against Arsenal and United to put them in a favorable situation after the opening fixtures.
