Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
